Three Rivers Market
knoxville, tn (2009)
Serving the local organic food market from a 2,500sf house-turned-commercial-space near downtown, Three Rivers Market (community food co-op) built the first facility in their 30-year history to serve their growing member base.
But, for a business that had survived in the same location since 1981, a primary design goal was how to blend very real growing pains with the same sense of belonging people have been enjoying the past 30 years. To succeed required taking into account the community, the people and the environment as part of the design process.

Hardee’s
prototype concept - schematic design (2012)
Underwhelmed with a batch of stale designs for exterior improvements from their corporate team, Hardee’s engaged us to provide a high-level prototype remodel concept. The creative brief was simple… “wow us with something fresh, exciting and unexpected.”
An analysis of precedent reveals a rich architectural expression which echoes the spirit of each decade, but along the way Hardee’s somehow lost their zest. Our ideas suggest a return to building as brand.
What began as a 1-week exercise to pitch concepts became a request to expand our concept thru schematics. The design had to be flexible enough to accommodate location variations, cost-effective enough to hit target expenses and implementable within a tight schedule… all without losing the spirit of the original idea.
